DSE 2010 APEX AWARD GOLD WINNERS

Arts, Entertainment, Recreation: NYC & Company with GestureTek
This interactive installation features three multi-touch projection tables with finger touch and object recognition. Guests can choose specific destinations and enjoy a Google Earth fly-through trip of New York as well as build an itinerary of sights and other cultural activities. They also can print out directions, or send an email or SMS (text message) to a cell phone.

Corporate & Government: Unisys Belgium NV with X2O Media
Developed for its corporate offices in Brussels and London, the Unisys network spans from a screen greeting guests in the reception area to multiple screens in the Unisys Solution Showcase, where dynamic, interactive, eye-catching content — created in the U.S. and managed remotely from the U.S. and U.K. — keeps visitors informed and continuously engaged.

Education & Healthcare: Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) with Cisco
The NOVA deployment consisted of 105 Cisco digital signs integrated and centrally managed, allowing a speech President Obama delivered at the school to be streamed live on digital screens across all six campuses. In addition, the installation incorporated a campus-wide emergency notification communications system, which was put to the test during a school shooting and received praise from law enforcement officials for its effectiveness.

Public Spaces: Amsterdam RAI with Scala Inc.
Amsterdam RAI, the largest event and conference center in The Netherlands, turned to Scala and Scala Certified Partner, QYN, to develop an enhanced way-finding system for the center’s 2 million annual visitors. The program involved some 800 displays in a unique digital network that combined fixed screens, mobile screens and LED lighting to deliver a meaningful visitor experience from entry to exit.

Hospitality: Zoom Media & Marketing with LocaModa Inc.
The George Tweets campaign, managed via LocaModa’s place-based media platform, represented a groundbreaking social media initiative for TBS’s latest primetime show, Lopez Tonight. The campaign encouraged George Lopez fans to display their tweets on the official Lopez Tonight “Twitterboard,” which was showcased nationwide on Zoom Media & Marketing’s extensive bar and restaurant network as well as on Viacom’s Times Square Jumbotron.

Retail: Miele Inspirience Centre with Scala Inc.
In the Miele Inspirience Centre in The Netherlands, more than 100 screens of different formats and aspects provide over 40 channels of customized HD content, which is either running dynamically or controlled by human interaction. Unique to this multisensory environment is the use of an Apple iPod Touch to customize the visitor experience, including local lighting, aroma dispersal, audio type and levels, and the digital content that appears on screens close to the customer — all managed through Scala’s operating platform.

Stadiums & Arenas: Miami Dolphins Land Shark Stadium with Cisco
The installation in the Miami Dolphins Land Shark Stadium consisted of more than 1,500 HD digital signs throughout the stadium with content on all screens centrally managed over an IP network. Cisco StadiumVision was used to deliver live game video, targeted advertising and promotions, personal video and customized content.

Transportation: The Port Authority of NY & NJ with Tightrope Media Systems
The Port Authority of NY & NJ chose Tightrope Media Systems’ Carousel to deliver vital digital signage and interactive kiosk information to passengers using the AirTrain monorail system at New York’s JFK International Airport. The system needed to interface directly with the Port Authority’s control and data system, provide instantaneous response time, include emergency override capability, and provide easily read messaging for both domestic and international passengers — all of which this installation achieved.
