Transpera today announced breakthrough company achievements, which include plans to deliver mobile video services, along with targeted, dynamic mobile advertising for several of the nation's most prestigious entertainment brands including: MTV Networks (MTVN), a unit of Viacom (NYSE: VIA) (NYSE: VIA.B), Discovery Communications, AccuWeather.com®, the Travel Channel and Next New Networks. These landmark deals mark Transpera's significant progress toward building the largest, free mobile video network in North America.
The first MTVN properties to use Transpera's platform under the agreement are VH1, best known for its music and pop culture entertainment, and GameTrailers, the premier provider of video for gamers. The new mobile video services are available today and can be directly accessed on any mobile phone, including all iPhones and smartphones via mobile URLs http://m.vh1.com and http://wap.gametrailers.com, respectively. COMEDY CENTRAL and Atom are scheduled to launch within the coming weeks. The new suite of mobile video services spans MTVN's vast audience demographics and interest sets, allowing each group yet another way to experience video on their phones. For example, VH1 fans will have the ability to access and watch fresh, daily video clips from popular programs such as "On This Day in Music" and "Best Night Ever" from their mobile phone. Gamers can access GameTrailers.com to search and watch video game previews, reviews and behind-the-scene interviews with game makers.
Transpera's Advertising Platform couples content with targeted ads such as Transpera's proprietary Overlay graphic or text, 3-10 second Peek™ pre-roll video, and display advertising, that are perfectly matched to the mobile user.
"MTV Networks is the world's largest provider of mobile video, and ad-supported mobile video platforms represent a great opportunity for us to extend our leadership," said Greg Clayman, Executive Vice President, Digital Distribution and Business Development. "Transpera allows us to provide a compelling user experience with an effective ad platform, and we look forward to partnering with them."
The host of partners now signed on with Transpera to offer mobile video services diversifies the content offerings and advertiser reach available within Transpera's ever-expanding network. Each new partner brings its signature mix of compelling programming ranging from science and technology, exploration adventure and history, to news, weather, travel, original programming and parody:
Discovery Communications (www.discovery.com) is set to deploy mobile video services for several of its entertainment brands, including its flagship, Discovery Channel as well as TLC, Animal Planet, Planet Green and Discovery Health, all powered by Transpera. Mobile users will have access to clips from a host of fan favorites such as "Dirty Jobs," "Jon & Kate Plus 8" and "Untamed & Uncut," among many others.
"Discovery is the number one non-fiction media company and with the addition of Transpera's mobile video services, we are providing consumers with another way to enjoy our award-winning content on the mobile platform," said Doug Craig, Senior Vice President, Programming, Digital edia.
Weather information has been shown by Nielsen mobile to be the most-accessed content on the mobile web. AccuWeather.com, the World's Weather Authority®, will offer mobile users the ability to watch videos of local, national, and regional forecasts as well as lifestyle content such as travel weather, sports weather, entertainment weather, bloopers, and more. The service will also allow users to access forecasts for a particular zip code or area, share weather videos mobile-to-mobile, and link easily to the AccuWeather.com mobile site.
Also signing on with Transpera today is Fox Reality Channel, who will bring video clips from its original shows to mobile. Additionally, Travel Channel will let mobile users watch, share and search for videos from its hit series "Anthony Bourdain No Reservations," "Samantha Brown's Passport to Great Weekends," "Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern" and more. Next New Networks, responsible for one of 2007's 10 best internet videos, "Crush on Obama," will debut its mobile video service featuring content from BarelyPolitical.com.
With more than 40 percent of Web site operators launching mobile sites and another 22 percent planning to do so within the next year, companies are realizing the potential of mobilizing their online content, and have flocked to Transpera. The steady expansion of its mobile content network, and advertising platform, further solidifies their place as true leaders in the mobile video frontier, as well as the overall strength of the market.
"Transpera's achievements are not only in step with the growing mobile video market, they are now a leader in this space," said Michael Gartenberg, Vice President of Mobile Strategy at Jupitermedia/ www.mobiledevicestoday.com.
